Vibration when steering. A bent rim causes your tire to make uneven contact with the road resulting in vibrations that travel up the steering column. Turning your steering wheel and feeling vibrations should notify you of this problem.

Wheel straightening

The best thing to do for a bent rim is to straighten it. The wheel should also be removed from the vehicle and cleaned. It should also be inspected for cracks before the actual strengthening steps are taken. This typically involves the use of a hydraulically assisted (wheel straightening) equipment to heat the wheel and hammer out any bends in it.

Rim refurbishment or custom coloring

Steps that are taken here include –

• Sanding down the scratched surface.
• Applying polyester sand finishing filler for deeper dents.
• Sanding the filled area after they’ve dried in preparation for painting.
• Use of abrasive pads to scuff the wheel surface before applying primer.
• Applying two layers of the primer coat.
• Applying a silver coat and a clear coat.

Once this is done, your car will look almost brand new.

Wheel remanufacturing

This is for more serious cases of bent rims, cracked rims, or even wheels with missing metal. For smaller cracks, welding services can be used successfully here. A CNC (computer numerical control) machine can also be used to repair the damage. Coating with powder and polishing afterward will result in near-perfect wheels.
